Earlier this year Nicola Carroll, a qualified National Tour Guide with a Masters in Art in the Contemporary World from NCAD, set up Artful Tours offering art-themed al fresco tours throughout Ireland. One example is “The M&M tour – Marianne and Markievicz, the Dublin adventures of two women from Sligo”. This tour starts at the Markievicz statue at The Irish Times building and ends at her statue in Stephen’s Green. Carroll, above, explains, “As we walk and talk I cover aspects of the life of the Countess as well as the paintings of her. This subject is interwoven with film locations of Normal People and Marianne’s favourite haunts, as well as the vintage stores where her character’s dresses were purchased.” Carroll has used the recent lockdown to research and finesse her tour themes further. Groups are small and safe – everyone wears a mask – while Carroll is offering gift vouchers for private tours for groups of up to six people for €150. For further information contact @artfultours .
